Fouquieria diguetii var. Baja

Description:

**INTERESTED? CALL OR TEXT THE KING AT (281) 591-8833 FOR PRICING AND AVAILABILITY**

This perennial, tree-like shrub is indigenous to the Sonoran desert of Baja California and other regions of Mexico. It is often confused with the Fouquieria splendens (Ocotillo). Despite inhabiting the same regions, it is a far rarer species. It can be distinguished from the latter plant by inspecting its thicker, more pronounced trunk (compared to the collection of whip-like stems coming from the base - typically 10 instead of 12-15). It may be entirely impossible to differentiate between the Fouquieria diguetii 'Baja' and Fouquieria splendens species when young.

Leaves are deciduous. This species erupts with gorgeous, fiery-red tubular flowers that tend to be most abundant from February through May. Hummingbirds are heavily attracted to the plant's flowers. This specie is drought tolerant and requires very well draining soil/pots. It can be propagated from seed and cuttings. Additionally, it is a great candidate for xeriscaping.
