Adenium multiflorum

Description:

Adenium multiflorum synonyms:

1. Adenium obesum subs. multiflorum (Klotzsch) Rowley
2. Adenium obesum var. multiflorum (Klotzsch) Codd

The Adenium multiflorum is a succulent shrub (or shrubby tree). They can reach heights of near 12 feet at full maturity. Their shape resembles a dwarf Baobab tree.

The Adenium multiflorum's stems arise from a large, thick carrot-like rootstock called a "caudex." The caudex may have a mature diameter of 3 feet. This enables the succulent to survive for long periods of time without water. The caudex acts similarly to the humps on a camel's back.

When in full bloom, flowers will completely cover the succulent. Oddly enough, the flower's color can be highly variable. The Adenium multiflorum usually produce flowers with pointed, white lobes and crinkly red margins/stripes in the throat. Plants with pure white flowers are occasionally found.

For most of the year, The Adenium multiflorum does not have flowers or leaves. This is not to say that this succulent requires flowers and/or leaves to look breathtaking. The Adenium multiflorum would make a unique and beautiful centerpiece all year round.
