Large, knobby woody, chocolate brown tuber 16 inches across, resting above the soil and looking like a horny turtle, its coat broken into numerous angled plates; sprouting slender, asparagus-like shoots becoming vine-like 3 feet, with alternate leaves and small axillary greenish-yellow flowers; grown as a curiousity in greenhouse.
