Description: 

Native to S.W. Madagascar. Forms a tree 9-15 feet tall, sometimes as tall as 50 ft. The succulent branches ascending, and furnished with sharp, tapering spines, the fleshy leaves obovate and the new leaves turned first horizontally, later vertically.
