The famous "Grizzly Bear" of hidden reaches of the Mohave desert; forms low clumps with oblong, thick grayish green flattened joints 10 to 15 cm long, densely covered with glistening white, thread-like spines usually 10 to 15 cm long. Flowers may be red or yellow.
